About this course

This relaxed six-week evening course is designed especially for complete beginners. You will explore three essential art materials – pencil, watercolour and acrylic paint – while learning the core skills needed to create artwork with greater confidence.

Each session includes a clear tutor demonstration, guided exercises and individual support as you develop your own finished pieces. No previous experience is needed: your tutor will guide you through every stage in a friendly, encouraging and supportive studio environment.

What you’ll learn

  1. Weeks 1–2

    Drawing with Confidence

Learn how to observe objects carefully and translate what you see onto paper. Explore shape, proportion, shading, tone and texture before creating a finished tonal drawing.

  2. Weeks 3–4

    Watercolour Made Simple

Discover how to control watercolour and use it with confidence: colour mixing, brush control, wet-on-wet and wet-on-dry, layering, texture and detail – then complete your own watercolour painting.

  3. Weeks 5–6

    Introduction to Acrylic Painting

Learn how to plan and build an acrylic painting from the first layer to the final details – colour mixing, blending, brush techniques, composition, texture and depth – finishing with your own acrylic painting on canvas.
